Agent Technologies, Infrastructures, Tools, and Applications by Michael N. Huhns (auth.), Jaime G. Carbonell, Jörg Siekmann, PDF

This booklet constitutes the completely refereed post-proceedings of the 3 agent-related workshops held throughout the NetObjectDays overseas convention, NODe 2002, held in Erfurt, Germany, in October 2002. The 23 revised complete papers offered with a keynote paper and a couple of abstracts have been rigorously chosen in the course of 2 rounds of reviewing and development.

Samuil D. Eidelman, Nicolae V. Zhitarashu (auth.)'s Parabolic Boundary Value Problems PDF

The current monograph is dedicated to the speculation of common parabolic boundary worth difficulties. The vastness of this idea compelled us to take tough judgements in deciding on the consequences to be provided and in picking out the measure of aspect had to describe their proofs. within the first bankruptcy we outline the elemental notions on the beginning of the idea of parabolic boundary price difficulties and provides a variety of examples of illustrative and descriptive personality.

3 Fingerprint Features A fingerprint is a pattern of curving line structures called n'dges, where the skin has a higher profile than its surroundings. which are called the valleys. In most fingerprint images, the ridges are black and the valleys are white. Due to all kinds of noise and distortions, fingerprints cannot be matched simply by taking the cross-correlation or the Euclidean distance of the gray scale images. Features are thus extracted from the fingerprints that are more invariant to the distortions.

3 shows a photo of part of such a system. This application presents several special challenges. First, the recognition of wet fingers gives rise to various problems. Fingerprint images from wet fingers lead to decreased image qUality. This problem is enhanced by the fact that the layer of fat at the skin is reduced by an extended stay in the water. Various fingerprint sensors were used, but none of them yielded a satisfactory image quality. Also, water causes the skin to fit less tightly around the finger, resulting in above-average elastic distortions of the fingerprint, thereby decreasing the matching perfonnance.
